RhythMix Cultural Works, and the Cultural Communitaria, the Cuban umbrella organization for all the Casas De Cultura (houses of culture) on the Island, sponsored four amazing drum and dance trips to Cuba in the years 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002. The last three trips were comprehensive tours of the Island of Cuba and the rich Folkloric culture throughout the Island. We visited a number of major centers of culture from Havana to Baracoa, on the most Eastern tip of the island.

Those cities included: Havana, Matanzas, Jovellanos, Cienfuegos, Palmira, Camaguey, Santiago De Cuba, Guantanamo, and Baracoa. Classes in percussion, song and dance were presented. We experienced first hand the origins of Afro-Haitian (in Cuba) and Afro-Cuban folklore. We also enjoyed guided tours and conferences about the area and its culture from scholars in the different regions.
